muss das zweite und schwierige album wirklich kompliziert sein? art brut kümmerts wohl herzlich wenig. denn sie klingen immer noch so erfrischend wie zuletzt auf dem debüt „bang bang rock ’n‘ roll“. der charismatische frontmann eddie argos versucht diesmal sogar mit deutscher sprache zu überzeugen. wer das nicht verpassen möchte, sollte ab juni seine augen und ohren nach „it’s a bit complicated“ offen halten.

kürzlich noch als ehrenvoller schlusspunkt meines fünften mixtapes fungiert, gaben die vier schotten gestern ihre auflösung bekannt. ihr statement:
„it is with heavy hearts that we tell you all that we have decided to split up. reasons are multiple and complex. it is however fair to say that the never ending financial struggle coupled with an almost superhuman ability to dodge the zeitgeist have taken their toll, ensuring that we just don’t have any fight left in us. we are immensely proud of the four albums that we made over the past seven years. we hope that they continue to grow in your hearts. we plan to honor and celebrate the beautiful friendships we have made along the way with these final shows over the summer.“

mit gewohnt breitem instrumentarium wird seit geraumer zeit in austin, texas an neuem folk-material gewerkelt. wer da seine finger im spiel hat? will sheff natürlich. er schenkt okkervil river fürs inzwischen fünfte album mal wieder seine imposante stimme. ab anfang august soll der „black sheep boy“-nachfolger bei uns erhältlich sein.

endlich ist es soweit. es steht ein neues mixtape ins haus. länger als erwartet hat es mich beschäftigt. doch lässt sich nun zufriedenstellend feststellen: stimmige komposition, mit bedacht gewählt, hebt die laune!

bereits im februar des letzten jahres erschien mit „trompe-l’œil“ ein album fünf begabter musiker aus québec, welches das hochgelobte debüt noch übertreffen sollte. leider kam zunächst nur kanada in den genuss dieses hörvergnügens. hierzulande musste man sich noch über ein jahr gedulden. erst vergangenen freitag schaffte es „trompe-l’œil“ in den deutschen handel. malajube schimpft sich das frankophone quintett und brachte es mit „montreal -40° c“ bereits auf mein erstes (!) mixtape. qualitätsmerkmal hin oder her. mit „trompe-l’œil“ wird ein unberechenbarer, bunter pop-zirkus auf französisch abgefeiert. hat da jemand noch eine schublade offen?
